M.A.N.D.Y.

.....is fabric's January's feature... so here is the spotlight and cheers to two great producers:
it's not often that two people discover a friendship as special as the Berlin-based creative duo M.A.N.D.Y. (Patrick Bodem and Philipp Jung). Two kindred souls drawn to one another at a young age, throughout their many harmonious years of acquaintance they've shared complementary callings in life. The first call rang when Patrick's family moved from Zurich to Saarbrücken at the age of 15; his friendship with Philipp was immediate and vibrant, and the inseparable pair immersed themselves in sports, compilation tapes, Tears For Fears and Janis Joplin records.

Individually, Philipp kept busy shirking his keyboard lessons and borrowing his friend's drum kit, while Patrick delved deeply into art and painting. When some older friends filled their stereos with Chicago mixtapes and the sounds of early acid house in the late 80's, their lifelong obsessive love with electronica began. It was only a short matter of time before their lives were overtaken: days spent in record shops revolved into bright nights in Frankfurt's glittery clubs and parties, weeks bled into months. University pulled them apart as the years flew by, both heading to different cities to pursue their studies (Patrick in Frankfurt studying economics, Philipp in Switzerland to study hotel and tourism), but they eventually came back around to each other in Frankfurt to pursue their passions, specifically their insatiable appetite for parties.

LA Riots or LA Riot?

Last night was a pretty good time even though the crowd sucked. Douche bags with Affliction shirts, pseudo-intellectuals with stringy dome covering and wiry facial hair, and of course the scenester assholes with no REAL interest in anything except what everyone else is interested in. Never mind that for now, let's get down to bidnass. LA Riots killed it. Not sure who the brains behind the production and remix work is, but the brains behind the decks is definitely Daniel LeDisko, flawless cueing and sick programming combined with a presence behind the decks made for a crowd pleasing performance. Would love to see these guys in a better city at a better venue, put together by a better promoter. Anywho, I guess that's Phoenix, no culture, no substance, lot's of money.

SoCo Music Experience-Tempe

GIRL TALK, GIRL TALK, GIRL TALK, GIRL TALK...This guy rocks a party, dude played on a laptop with Adobe Audition and destroyed the show. From Nirvana to Notorious B.I.G., Girl Talk dropped classic bombs re-worked in a way only he could do. Another highlight of the show was Architecture in Helsinki, who sounded just as good live as they do in a studio. Performances that weren't so noteworthy were Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Cold War Kids, who really had no sound or entertainment value in their live show whatsoever. Either way still a fan of both bands, just didn't do it for me in a live setting. Here's some pics of Architecture, Girl Talk, and CYHSY.

Modeselektor Killed

What a fun time, Modeselektor, Drinks, Friends, and Jerk Off promoters, what else can you ask for in a show. Zhe Germans started off strong with selections from their bangin' techno style, and then with a dramatic breakdown went into a sick rework of Aiyo Technology (you know the Fitty Track), and of course they played The White Flash which featured Thom Yorke's recorded vocals. All in all a great performance, that would have been even more enjoyable in the hands of a better promoter.
